Ahoy, fellow Light Drinkers and welcome to The Midweek Drink! I thought it’ll be a nice change to greet you readers with something less mundane like the usual ‘Hey!’ or ‘Hello!’. But this blog is not all about what quirky greeting I should start with; it’s about the thirst-quenching beverages that I have the opportunity to drink and review.
While we’re on the subject of thirst-quenching beverages, I am pleased to announce four new types of non-alcoholic drinks: Vandestreek Playground IPA; Sea Arch Non-Alcoholic Gin, Harveys Brewery Sussex Best Bitter & Harveys Brewery Old Ale. So with these new additions, Valentines Day could be sorted for you lovebirds up and down the country!
On this week’s Midweek Drink, I am going to be reviewing another beer brewed by Mikkeller: Racing Beer.
A brief history of Mikkeller
Mikkeller was founded in 2006 by Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, a maths and physics teacher, and journalist Kristian Klarup Keller in Copenhagen, Denmark. In late 2006, they introduced a beer called Beer Geek Breakfast which gained them recognition, and at the same time, won them an award in the stout category of international beer.
In 2007, Keller left the company to pursue his career as a journalist. From 2008 onwards, Mikkeller has shipped to over 40 countries, produced over 800 different types of beers, and now, have successfully opened two breweries in the U.S.
Three senses and a beverage
Mikkeller Racing Beer is bottled in a 330ml bottle and is alcohol-free (0.0%). The ingredients used are: water, barley malt, hops and yeast. This alcohol-free beer also contains the vitamins B2, B5 and B12, so, this beer is perfect to keep your energy levels up!
Racing Beer has a hazy pale yellow colour, with a frothy, white head and medium carbonation. From what I can pick out from the aroma are hints of Pineapple and Peach, or, to put it simply, a fruity aroma. For the taste, my tastebuds can detect a slightly sweet beginning, followed by a sourish pineapple aftertaste. Very palatable and ideal for those who like a bit of fruitiness to their beer!
