The Midweek Drink - Mikkeller Energibajer

Welcome to the 44th edition of The Midweek Drink. I do hope you parents out there are enjoying your half term with your kids, and if you are looking for that special something to give you a boost of energy to keep up with all their shenanigans, then maybe this week’s choice of beverage may be the one for you. On this week, I shall be reviewing for you a wheat ale called Energibajer, brewed by Mikkeller.

A brief history of Mikkeller

Mikkeller was founded in 2006 by Mikkel Borg Bjergsø, a maths and physics teacher, and journalist Kristian Klarup Keller in Copenhagen, Denmark. In late 2006, they introduced a beer called Beer Geek Breakfast which gained them recognition, and at the same time, won them an award in the stout category of international beer.

In 2007, Keller left the company to pursue his career as a journalist. From 2008 onwards, Mikkeller has shipped to over 40 countries, produced over 800 different types of beers, and now, have successfully opened two breweries in the U.S.

Three senses and a beverage

The ingredients used are: Water, Barley Malt, Wheat Malt, Hops and Mikkellensis Yeast.

This wheat ale comes in a 330ml can, is alcohol-free (0%) and contains vitamins B2, B12 & B5.

Mikkeller Energibajer has a misty, pale yellow colour with medium carbonation and a frothy, white head. The best way to describe the taste is a mixture of sweet and bitter. In the beginning, your tastebuds are treated to a fruity (preferably peach) sweet taste, which then, turns to a light, dry, bitter aftertaste. And for the aroma, there are notes of a sweet, fruitiness that can be picked off, as well.
