The Midweek Drink - Estrella Free Damm

The Midweek Drink - Estrella Free Damm

Welcome back to the 14th edition of The Midweek Drink. It is now day ten of complete sobriety for one whole month, most commonly known as Dry January. It can be, sometimes, a tough experience for those who do enjoy having the odd drink after work to then completely stop. But us at LightDrinks we have four words for you: We Got Your Back. Yes, you may have to stop drinking alcoholic beverages but that doesn’t mean you have to stop enjoying the taste of your favourite beverages. With us, we are happy to support you all the way with our fantastic range of non-alcoholic and alcohol-free drinks which you can choose from, compare with your favourite alcoholic drinks and also satisfy your tastebuds at the same time. And the benefits with these, too? Less calories which is perfect for those who like to keep track on their calories.

Talking of non-alcoholic drinks, my choice for this week is Estrella FREE Damm that comes from the very famous brand from Spain: Estrella Damm.

A brief history on Estrella Damm

When the Franco-Prussian War began, a young brewer called August Kuentzmann Damm fled from his home of Alsace to Barcelona with his wife to pursue their dream of brewing their own beer, which eventually became a reality in 1876 with the opening of their first ever brewery. Over 140 years later, the brand Estrella Damm continues to be the most dominant and oldest brand in Spain - and very popular across the world, too. They have continued to use the same ingredients ever since it first arrived on the lager industry.

Three senses and a beverage

The ingredients used in this non-alcoholic lager are: water, barley malt, maize, glucose and fructose syrup, rice and hops.

It comes in a blue 330ml can with the word ‘FREE’ that makes it quite clear to the consumer that it is completely free from alcohol (0.0%). If you’re not much a fan of drinking out of a can (like myself, a lager should always be enjoyed in a glass), you could always opt for the 250ml glass bottle instead.

It has a great clear gold colour as you pour into a glass, low carbonation and a medium white head. The taste itself is excellent! Very malty, fresh, sweet with notes of bread and a very crisp aftertaste at the back of the throat. A strong aroma of hops rises from the glass that resembles a typical lager.

All in all, a non-alcoholic lager that’s produced by a famous brand will no doubt prove to be fantastic in taste and it is as close as you can get to similarities of its alcoholic cousin: Estrella Damm.
